Beginning Juggling: Enhance Your Health While Having Fun
Be honest: isn’t juggling the coolest thing!? But did you know that it has health benefits as well? Juggling increases brain fitness and is a terrific antidote to stress. It decreases cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases serotonin (the “feel good” neurotransmitter). You can’t be thinking about other things while you juggle, so it’s a great form of mindfulness for folks who have trouble with sitting meditation. Juggling emulates the process of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming), because it induces bilateral stimulation in the brain, and therefore helps you to reprogram your brain and make new pathways for problem-solving. Plus it’s just plain FUN! Will Devine runs a wellness company called Creative Alchemy of Colorado. He has taught over 250 people how to juggle and is currently partnering with therapists and coaches to help people reduce stress and anxiety through juggling. He’ll get you started so you can make juggling part of your practice.
