Mushroom Cultivation Step 2: Grain Spawn Preparation

This workshop builds on what you’ve learned about creating mushroom cultures and takes you to the second of the three levels. Learn the concepts and skills needed to use hydrated grain/seeds to expand mushroom mycelium in preparation for bulk substrate. You will taste, touch, smell, see and learn how to hydrate a batch of grain through a hands-on demonstration. You’ll get to try the process yourself, working with the tools that are used in a real home lab. We’ll start with a brief intro to the mushroom life cycle followed by a short lecture on how grain can be used in the home cultivation process. Next you’ll watch live demonstrations and practice each technique. Instructors will guide you through the process and ensure that you follow correct procedure. Controlling hand and arm movements is key. No previous experience or knowledge is needed but this class builds on the foundation of Zach and Anna Kiser’s class, “Mushroom Growing at Home: Step One.”
