Find Your Story: Essential Steps for Strong Writing

We all have stories to tell, but we may struggle to find the best way to tell those stories. Finding the nerve of a story can be the hardest part of writing. Oftentimes we not only use the wrong medium, but we follow a concept instead of a story. The result is a draft that feels flat, lifeless, and lacks momentum and/or direction. In this class, we’ll unpack what makes a story work and explore various storytelling mediums to identify the beating heart of a piece of prose. Take time to reflect on why your story matters and what your goal for writing it is. Using discussion and exercises, this interactive class is designed to help pinpoint problems in story conception and pave a path to a better approach to your work. Sara Webster is a freelance writer and former filmmaker who received her MFA in fiction from New York University. NOTE: This course will be offered via Zoom.
