Short Story Writing

One of the most beloved and challenging forms for writing, the short story can be incredibly powerful. This genre tackles everything a longer piece of work needs to achieve, but in a bite-sized length that allows writers to better analyze what's working, and what's not. In this course, we'll cover what a short story is, or isn't, and identify elements that are essential for a story to succeed. Through reading the greats, we'll learn how best to work with character, narration, point of view, description, tone, and voice, and then we'll apply those ideas during in-class exercises. A full-time writer, Sara Webster earned her MFA from New York University's Writers Workshop in Paris, and she studied both Creative Writing and Media Arts at the University of Arizona. She writes short fiction, digital content, book reviews, and she's at work on her first novel. Writers of all experience levels are welcome.
