Funding for Nonprofits: Starting a Simple Planned Giving Program
Nonprofits get funding through grants, events, individual giving, corporate donations, and planned giving. Start with a quick overview of these funding strategies and then drill down on planned giving, which is an important way for nonprofits to sustain themselves for the long haul. A planned (or legacy) gift is made by a donor during their lifetime or at death as part of their overall financial and/or estate planning. These include bequests, gifts of stock, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash. This course is designed for any size nonprofit that doesn't have a planned giving program or has one that needs to be re-energized. A 35-year resource development professional, Jim Gumpert spent his career working for national charities including the Arthritis Foundation, American Red Cross, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He is a frequent speaker at national conferences on topics ranging from annual campaigns, major and planned gifts, and recruiting and motivating board members.
