Finances & Nonprofits: A Layman's Guide to Financial Statements

Whether you work for a nonprofit, sit on a board, or are thinking of starting a nonprofit, you need to know how to understand a financial statement and use it to guide the organization's decision-making. It's also important to know what kinds of records need to be kept, what an audit is and whether you need one, and when and what you must file with the IRS and state department of revenue. Nikki Riedt works with the Public Interest Network and travels the country consulting with member organizations about their financial statements and how to use them appropriately. She'll translate the terms, explain the concepts, and give you the basics to be a responsible member of your nonprofit.
